Guest.nasa.gov, or simply Guest, is the web application that Guest users use to manage their NASA Guest accounts.
There are two types of Guest account: Self-managed and Managed.
| Self-managed | Managed | |
|---|---|---|
| Account created by: | The user (at Guest) | A NASA representative |
| Public, low-risk Guest Services available via guest.nasa.gov? | Yes | Yes |
| Additional Guest Services available via NASA POC? | No | Yes |
At any time, you can modify the public, low-risk Guest Services you can access:
No update to your password is required when a new service is added or deleted. You may delete a service at any time.
Note: If a requested Guest Service is missing from the dropdown, it may be a Managed Guest Service and require approval. Please reach out to the NASA POC for guidance.
A Guest account is a lightweight NASA account that gives you access to public, low-risk web application capabilities supported by NASA. Your Guest account consists of your first and last name, email address, and citizenship.
Important: If you have a NASA Identity in IdMAX, use your personal email when creating your Guest account. You'll need this email to link your account with Login.gov.
| Field Name | Required/Optional | Description |
|---|---|---|
| First Name | Required | Your legal first name |
| MI | Optional | Your legal middle name |
| Last Name | Required | Your legal last name (surname) |
| Required |
Your email address that will be used for activity notification. Do not create a NASA Guest account using an email address linked to your NASA Identity, as it may cause complications with Launchpad access. |
|
| Citizenship | Required | Your citizenship country |
After completing these steps, you will have successfully completed your Guest account registration. A link is provided if you need to make any changes to your guest account information.
You will receive an additional email with instructions on how to log in to the NASA application that you have access to.
Be sure to check your spam folder for emails if you haven't received them.
Login.gov is a way to sign in to many U.S. government websites by using one account. To learn more, see What is Login.gov?
NASA has integrated Guest.nasa.gov with Login.Gov to compile with the requirements in Executive Order (EO) 14028 by providing phishing-resistant Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) options to the public.
While not required at this time, it is recommended. Login.gov provides MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) when used for authentication and Phishing Resistant MFA is optionally available for users. Once Login.gov federation is fully implemented at NASA, any existing and new NASA Guest users will need to be linked to Login.gov to access Guest Services.
If you do not have an existing Login.gov account, create one at Login.gov.
Note: If you have an existing Guest account, please use the same email address to create your Login.Gov Account.
For Login.gov account issues, see Login.gov's help page.
NASA Guest Account Services supports using Login.gov credentials to access NASA’s approved guest applications. If you are having issues accessing your guest applications with Login.gov credentials the following troubleshooting steps will help identify the issue.
Remember that your Launchpad password expires every 60 days, regardless of the Guest Account End Date.
Be sure to check your spam folder for emails if you haven't received them.
Click the “Can’t use Login.gov?” button located at guest.nasa.gov. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the “Forgot Your Password?” button. Enter the email address associated with your Guest account and click send. An email with a link to reset your password will be sent.
No. Simply click the "Log In" link to enter your password and access your Guest account.
Each application determines whether low-risk Guest accounts are allowed to access via Launchpad single sign-on processes. Additionally, some applications verify whether you have been approved for that application or service.
Yes. Your Guest account password is valid for 60 days.
No. Guest accounts are deleted after a period of inactivity. To regain access to Guest, simply go to the website and create a new account.
In order to grant access, people are assigned a Level of Confidence which measures 1) the degree of certainty that a person is who they claim to be and 2) a person's suitability/fitness for their position or access level. Your LoC is predetermined and will allow you to access applications at the appropriate level. Note that some applications may have Level of Confidence (LoC) validations that must be met for certain access.
If you are eligible to increase your Level of Confidence (LoC), you will see a “Increase Access” button located in the area of your Level of Confidence field value. Your LoC can be from 5 to 20. You can increase your LoC by submitting some identity data to our proofing service by following these steps:
After following these steps, a message will be displayed saying whether the proofing service found a match or not.
NASA HQ Policy states that no exceptions will be made after a user reaches the maximum number of attempts at being vetted for a Level of Confidence (LoC) increase.
Note: Information provided on the 'increase access' must be personal data. Companies or groups cannot be vetted for increase of access.
Visit the NASA website to which you have been granted access. You will be redirected to the Access Launchpad website where you will enter your email address and the password that you have set up.
Applications will sometimes re-direct you to log in on the Access Launchpad website. The Access Launchpad website (launchpad.nasa.gov) has three login options: Smartcard, RSA Token, and Agency User ID. To use Login.gov authentication, select the Login.gov link at the top of the page. Otherwise:
If successful, you will be returned to application site.
Instead of having to maintain a Guest account password, you can link your Login.gov via the Linked Accounts tab. Guest provides an option for a NASA Launchpad login and a Login.gov login, and there are plans for other applications to provide these options.
Note that if you receive notifications that your account is expiring, you will have to use the Manage Account Expiration Date feature to extend your account end date for long-term needs by visiting guest.nasa.gov. If you still require a username & password, continue to change it every 60 days.
During the Limited Services mode some features of guest.nasa.gov will be unavailable due to a maintenance activity. Services will be fully restored after the activity is complete.
